Academy Update

Academy Update

A lot has happened since our update in late January. We have 2 State Champions and all 10 Academy sides are in the Metro finals, what a fantastic acheivement for the club.

Metro

Finals have already begun with our Under 18 Girls already qualified for the Grand Final and our 14B girls just getting beaten yesterday, although they get another chance next week.

We have most of our sides playing finals this week with the exception being our 16B boys and our 14A girls who still have a round to play. We look forward to many great results over the next couple of weeks.

Please keep an eye on the website as we try to keep everyone up to date with how we are progressing.

State Championships

Under 14

The under 14 State Championships were held in February up at the Central Coast. All 4 of our sides represented Cronulla with great distinction.

Congratulations to our 14A boys who are the Under 14 State Champions after defeating Wests 11-8 in the final. I know Kerry Turner (coach) and all the parents and supporters are very proud of their effort. For what the future looks like for this group please refer to the Under 18 notes below.

Also congratulations to our 14A girls who also made the final but fell to a very strong Drummoyne side. We know Brew Falson (coach) is looking forward to meeting up with them again during the Metro comp and at the upcoming National Championships in April.

Our two B sides also performed admirably over the weekend with the girls just missing out on a quarter final birth (going down 4-3 in the qualifier) and our boys defeating the strong Hunter side during their round games.

Following the carnival Under 14 State Squads were announced along with Under 13 Development Squads. Cronulla are well represented in each of the Squads with the State teams to be chosen in late April.

We have just completed the Under 18 State Championships and are pleased to announce our Under 18 boys are State Champions for the second year in a row. This is predominanty the same group of boys who 4 years ago, on the Central Coast, were the Under 14 State Champions. These boys are Nic Brooks, Sam Cocokios, Dylan Holden, Zac Quinn, Matt Schweighoffer, Lachlan Greer, Angus Lambie & Rhys Holden.

We entered two girls sides in this year’s State Championships. Our A side were beaten 6-4 in the Semi Final after going through the round games undefeated, including a draw against the eventual winners Hunter. Our B side, comprising a large number of younger girls, finished a very creditable 6th.

I know Bec is excited by what the club has to offer in the depth of our girl’s squads and is looking forward to the Nationals in April.

Club News

We will be holding the annual Sportsmans Lunch in the coming weeks. Final details are being worked on now with an invite to be sent to all members in the next week. It is a great afternoon of fun and we hope to see as many of our supporters there as possible.

Our National League teams are half way through their season with some mixed results to date. Our girls are just starting to hit their straps with two victories over the weekend to put them back in the hunt for a finals birth. They will need to win the majority of their remaining games to make the finals.

Our mens side continues to develop under head coach Predrag and after coming close to taking a large scalp in recent weeks managed to take one over the weekend when they defeated last years minor premiers UNSW Wests. This in addition to their recent victories over Adelaide has them in a great frame of mind for the remaining 10 games.

Below is an outline of the remaining National League home games. If you get the chance to get along to the games, please wear your Cronulla shirt and cheer them on.
